Neighborhoods In The Blink Of An Eye: Hancock Park
One of the most architecturally and ethnically diverse areas of our town was developed almost a century ago, in a place where there once were massive fields of oil derricks. Luckily, at some point oil ran out, but Allan Hancock still found a way to profit from his family’s land, creating one of the iconic neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
Centrally located, Hancock Park is a stones throw away from strategic areas like Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and Downtown LA. Large, lots of flat land made it easy for architects to unleash their imaginations, building homes of every style and scale! While the majority of the homes built in Los Angeles are contemporary in style, great efforts are made to protect iconic architectural examples by giving some areas the status of HPOZ (Historic Preservation Overlay Zone).
Hancock Park, like many historic places in Los Angeles, has its rich connection to the Golden Era of Hollywood. Many celebrities of the silent movie era had homes in here, in coveted parts of the area, like Windsor Square or Fremont Place. Today, these coveted pockets of Hancock Park are still very prestigious, attracting business-oriented people together with foreign investors.
