Neighborhoods In The Blink Of An Eye: Bel Air
Starting from a very beginning of its existence this neighborhood was meant to be an ultra-luxury part of a rapidly developing town, and the original idea holds its value until this day.
There were few attempts to develop lands around Bel Air in early 19th century, but this part of town was too far from Los Angeles (read – Downtown LA), roads weren’t that great, and as a result that real estate was just bringing multiple developers into a bankruptcy.
That continued until Alphonzo Bell came about. Making his money from oil discovered at his rancho at Santa Fe Springs, he purchased few very large parcels of land here with an idea of creating a community of very successful and well mannered (Hollywood celebrities weren’t invited to this party) residents. And with a rapid development of automobile industry commute to Beverly Hills and Los Angeles became easier, and residents finally saw a tremendous value in very generous lots offering fantastic views.
Following up with construction of Bel Air Country Club and few other important additions to a luxury lifestyle here, this area became a success and until this day holds a status of one of the most exclusive parts not just in Los Angeles, but in The US in general.
Single Family Home Price Range: Even though you can find something under $1M in a high traffic and tough access parts of this neighborhood, like Beverly Glen, that is still a very rare find, and on a top of that – that is not what Bel Air as a neighborhood is all about. This part of town is about nice roads, good views, and lots and lots of well manicured land. And that does come with a price tag. New developments and classic reimagined homes are blowing your mind with prices that only a very small category of people in the world can afford. Some homes for sale here are currently on a market for around, or even higher than $200M. Therefore, the initial idea of creating this neighborhood as the one that will host the richest people around is still alive.
Condo Price Range: There are only few condominium complexes in a whole neighborhood of Bel Air. They are located in the upper part of this area, along Roscomare Road. Prices start from $600K and go slightly higher that $1M, but again, finding an available condo here is a great rarity, which makes total sense. Bel Air has never been a community where you share common space with your neighbors.
